The city of Portland has a large homeless community, but Central Church of the Nazarene is doing something to help.
They are building “Agape Village” on church property, which will feature 15 specially designed “tiny houses.” Inspired by similar initiatives at other churches in Portland, Pastor Matt Huff told The Christian Post the village “started with the church’s desire to more effectively love God and love our neighbor.”
Volunteers from the church are helping to build the community where—along with shelter—people can find community and will have access to case managers who will help them find employment as well as addiction specialists.
Huff hopes that soon, other local churches will get involved and adopt each of the pods. He explained to CP, “I’m just asking for them to come and be friends with the people in it. And then the church can love them and give them socks if they need socks or wish them a happy birthday.”
As the pictures below from their Facebook page shows, the village is well underway, and they hope to have it completed by this summer.
